“Scafell Sky Race is a fantastic event, well organised and with a wonderful atmosphere from start to finish. The course is technically challenging but stunning. The Great Slab descent off Bowfell is absolutely thrilling!” - Kat Hutchinson, 2019, 2021, 2022
The Scafell Sky Race is a classic Lake District route that will test the speed, technical running skills and endurance of experienced and aspiring mountain runners.
With 38km of mountain terrain and 2800m of ascent, all on technical, single-track trails from start to finish, this makes this a classic skyrunning route to be reckoned with!
Starting at the centre of the Great Langdale Valley and the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, you will run over the Lakeland Fells, through Lakeland Valleys traversing over some of the most challenging trails in the central Lake District, including to the summit of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
The fastest runners are expected to cross the finish line in just under four hours. However our generous cut-off times mean that our final finishers have up to ten hours to make it back to race base, where you’ll be welcomed with a finisher’s meal and drink!
Scafell Sky Race was part of the Skyrunning UK series for 2018 and is a current qualifier for UTMB races & also the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships 2025.
